Onglyza is a medication utilized by individuals with Type 2 diabetes. It functions by reducing elevated blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to increase insulin production in the bloodstream. Additionally, it inhibits the liver from generating excessive sugar when there is already a surplus in the blood.

The dosage and frequency of administration depend on the strength of Onglyza prescribed and your medical condition. Follow your physician's directions closely. Do not modify your dose or abruptly discontinue the medication without consulting your physician, even if you start to feel better. Doing so may worsen your symptoms and increase the risk of unwanted side effects. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and proceed with your regular schedule—do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Like all medications, Onglyza may cause side effects in some individuals. Common side effects include weakness, vomiting, a runny nose, skin redness, hives, shortness of breath, rashes, itching, wheezing, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, and loss of appetite. If these symptoms worsen or persist, reach out to your physician.

Rarer side effects of Onglyza can include unexplained rapid weight gain, anxiety, lower back pain, depression, cold sweats, blurred vision, dizziness, cough, blood in urine, pale skin, chills, coma, nightmares, increased hunger, bladder pain, and ear or chest congestion. If you encounter any of these symptoms, contact your physician immediately or seek emergency medical attention.

Avoid taking Onglyza if you have a known allergy to it or any of its components.

Inform your physician about any allergies to other medications, dyes, foods, preservatives, or any other substances, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as well as any other prescription, over-the-counter medications, or herbal and dietary supplements you are currently taking.
